The All-New Batman the Brave and The Bold Issue #4 Review

I remember a few months ago the excitement of everyone on the BMWW forum about this upcoming issue of Batman the Brave and the Bold. Batman and Wonder Woman were getting married. Of course we all knew that there had to be a catch and there certainly is but overall the story is very fun.
It begins with Wonder Woman fighting Giganta. While they battle Giganta’s miniature ally Mouse Man is conducting a little corporate espionage and stealing files loaded onto a flash drive. Batman stops him.
Unbeknownst to them Harmonia and Eros are observing Wonder Woman. Eros is angry because Diana is again fighting when his mother Aphrodite charged her with the mandate to spread love to Man’s world. So he shoots both Batman and Wonder Woman with love arrows. Batman asks her to marry him and she says yes. They kiss. Sigh.

The wedding day arrives. Etta and Steve (who are married to each other) are Diana’s witnesses and Clark and Dick are Bruce’s. Clark and Dick can’t believe the suddenness of everything and Dick can’t figure out what would make Batman want to marry Wonder Woman until he sees her in her wedding gown and shuts up.

The wedding begins and of course the villains attack. The Amazons along with most of the superhero community fight them. Batman and Wonder Woman join in the fun and all the villains are taken down. But an angry Eros shows up and berates Diana for fighting again when she should be in love. Aphrodite shows up and stops him. She shows how Wonder Woman inspires love everyday through her love of all humanity. She tells him you can’t force love on Diana and she will find her special love one day. They leave and Wonder Woman and Batman are happy that they don’t have to pretend to be in love anymore. It seems that Batman used Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth to release her from the spell. When asked what released him he said that he was committed to another woman—the only lady in his life was justice and he realized this when he saw the Statue of Justice at city hall. They only continued with the wedding because they knew it would be attacked by a lot of villains giving them the opportunity to take them down.
Both Dick and Superman don’t believe Batman was released by his love for Lady Justice and wonder if there is another real woman that his heart is committed to and on the next page we see Catwoman chasing Mouse Man. She is angry that he was part of the reason that Batman almost married another woman.
Well as you can see the implied message is that Catwoman is the other woman to which Batman is committed. This is a big let down for us Batman and Wonder Woman fans. But on a positive note we got a kiss between our favorite pair but all of it was just a fabrication. Of course I loved Talia losing it over her “Beloved” marrying another that is shown in two panels of Batman and Wonder Woman sharing domestic bliss.
All in all it was a very cute and fun story and worth the read. On a positive note my LCS was out of the comic because their subscribers ordered all the copies they had. He was only was able to sell me a reserved copy because he could order another one before the subscriber came in for his books. So there are quite a few Batman/Wonder Woman fans out there. So let’s keep our positive attitude and always know we have fan fiction, written by some amazing writers, if nothing else to sustain us.
